Insurance Coverage for the Wholesale Industry

The wholesale industry provides large quantities of items such as clothing and footwear, home furnishings, food and beverage, office equipment, and other supplies to various businesses and retailers throughout the country. Supply chain issues and ever-changing technology, along with trying to maintain a smooth operation, can lead to challenges for wholesale distributors.

Wholesalers work hard to keep their employees safe while ensuring prompt delivery of their goods. However, the wholesale industry faces some unique risks that can lead to increased employee-related accidents and injuries, especially when daily duties involve heavy machinery like forklifts, climbing ladders or using other types of equipment in the warehouse.

Types of Hospitality Insurance Coverages Wholesalers

AmTrust offers robust insurance for wholesalers, helping to protect their assets and employees from a variety of uncertainties and complex risks. Our insurance for the wholesale industry includes policies that can be written as a package or as a monoline, making sure the employees and the business are financially protected should an accident or injury occur on the job.

Workers’ Compensation

Workers' Compensation Insurance protects your business and office workers by providing benefits to employees injured in the workplace. These benefits can address medical care and related medical costs, retraining and lost wages until the employee can return to work or compensation for permanent disability.

General Liability Insurance

General Liability Insurance provides coverage to wholesale distributors for bodily injury, personal injury and property damage caused by the business’s operations, products, or injury that occurs on the business’s premises. This type of business insurance offers coverage for third parties who experience harm to themselves or their property because of something you or your workers did or failed to do.

Commercial Property Insurance

Commercial Property Insurance protects businesses in the wholesale industry by covering the building, contents, business income, and rental income from commonly experienced losses, including fire, explosion, pipe burstsstorms, theft, vandalism, and flood and earthquake (when this type of coverage has been added to the policy).

Commercial Auto

Commercial auto coverage is designed to protect wholesalers of all sizes from litigation related to automotive incidents, including vehicle accidents, theft and vandalism. Commercial auto insurance helps cover the costs of damage repair or vehicle replacement.

Employment Practices Liability Insurance

Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) coverage protects professional service organizations in the event of employment-related claims, including alleged discrimination, wrongful termination or demotion, sexual harassment and retaliation. An EPLI policy applies to all employees of an insured business, including temporary, part-time, full-time, seasonal, volunteers and independent contract workers.

Cyber Insurance

Any business using computers to complete day-to-day tasks should consider cyber insurance a necessary coverage. Cyber liability insurance provides coverage for certain losses incurred as a result of data breaches. Businesses are increasingly facing cyber risks that can threaten their operations and even their existence.

AmTrust’s Preferred Exposures for the Wholesale Industry

When it comes to insurance for wholesalers, AmTrust focuses on businesses that feature:

  • At least one full-time employee (owners included) or part-time equivalent
  • No more than 75 employees at any one location per shift
  • New ventures acceptable
  • We will consider wholesalers that have a driving exposure; our preference is a delivery radius limited to 50 miles but will consider accounts that go outside of that radius
  • Wholesalers of hazardous materials are not eligible for coverage
  • Wholesalers featuring cold storage are accepted
